Begin your safari with a guided canoe excursion in Mabamba Wetland, one of the best places in Africa to see the prehistoric-looking Shoebill Stork. The wetland also hosts many other water and papyrus bird species, making it a birding hotspot.

Birding in the Albertine Rift

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Ruhija sector are among the top birding destinations in Africa, home to Albertine Rift endemics such as the African Green Broadbill, Shelley’s Crimsonwing, and Grauer’s Rush Warbler.

Mountain Gorilla Trekking Experience

Itinerary Details

Day-by-day

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe – Uganda Birding Safari Begins

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be welcomed by our professional guide. Transfer to your hotel near Lake Victoria. Depending on arrival time, enjoy light birding around the hotel gardens.

Day 2: Entebbe – Mabamba Wetland – Lake Mburo National Park

Early morning transfer to Mabamba Wetland for Shoebill tracking by canoe. Continue to Lake Mburo National Park, stopping for birding en route. Evening bird walk around the lodge.

Day 3: Lake Mburo – Ruhija Sector, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Morning birding and game viewing in Lake Mburo before driving to Ruhija, a prime birding area in Bwindi. Look out for savannah and woodland bird species along the way.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Optional)

Optional mountain gorilla trekking experience. For non-trekkers, guided forest birding is available. Afternoon relaxation at the lodge.

Day 5: Full Day Birdwatching in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

A full day dedicated to birding in Bwindi’s montane forest, focusing on Albertine Rift endemics and rare forest species.

Day 6: Ruhija – Buhoma Sector, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Transfer through scenic forest routes to Buhoma, with birding stops along the way. Afternoon bird walk near the lodge.

Day 7: Buhoma Birding & Optional Gorilla Tracking

Morning birding along forest trails and riverine habitats. Optional second gorilla trek at an additional cost.

Day 8: Buhoma – Queen Elizabeth National Park

Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park via the Ishasha sector, famous for tree-climbing lions. Afternoon birding around the lodge.

Day 9: Full Day Birding in Queen Elizabeth National Park

Morning game drive and birding. Afternoon Kazinga Channel boat cruise, offering excellent waterbird sightings.

Day 10: Queen Elizabeth – Kibale Forest National Park

Birding en route to Kibale Forest. Evening bird walk around the lodge.

Day 11: Full Day Birding in Kibale – Optional Chimpanzee Tracking

Morning forest birding. Optional chimpanzee trekking in the afternoon.

Day 12: Kibale – Masindi

Drive north with birding stops along forest edges and wetlands. Overnight in Masindi.

Day 13: Budongo Forest Birding

Full day birding in Budongo Forest, famous for woodland and forest bird species.

Day 14: Masindi – Murchison Falls National Park

Enter Murchison Falls National Park. Afternoon visit to the top of the falls for scenic views and birding.

Days 15–16: Murchison Falls National Park

Game drives on the northern bank, birding along the Nile, and a boat cruise to the base of the falls, spotting kingfishers, herons, and raptors.

Day 17: Murchison Falls – Kampala

Drive back to Kampala with birding stops along the way.

Day 18: Lake Victoria – Departure

Relaxation and birding along Lake Victoria shores before transfer to Entebbe Airport for departure.
